Uniquely Yours Receives 2009 Best of Waterbury Award

U.S. Local Business Association’s Award Plaque Honors the Achievement
WASHINGTON D.C., May 26, 2009 -- For the second consecutive year, Uniquely Yours has been selected for the 2009 Best of Waterbury Award in the Photographers category by the U.S. Local Business Association (USLBA).

The USLBA "Best of Local Business" Award Program recognizes outstanding local businesses throughout the country. Each year, the USLBA identifies companies that they believe have achieved exceptional marketing success in their local community and business category. These are local companies that enhance the positive image of small business through service to their customers and community.

Nationwide, only 1 in 70 (1.4%) 2008 Award recipients qualified as 2009 Award Winners. Various sources of information were gathered and analyzed to choose the winners in each category. The 2009 USLBA Award Program focused on quality, not quantity. Winners are determined based on the information gathered both internally by the USLBA and data provided by third parties.

U.S. Local Business Association (USLBA) is a Washington D.C. based organization funded by local businesses operating in towns, large and small, across America. The purpose of USLBA is to promote local business through public relations, marketing and advertising.
The USLBA was established to recognize the best of local businesses in their community. Our organization works exclusively with local business owners, trade groups, professional associations, chambers of commerce and other business advertising and marketing groups. Our mission is to be an advocate for small and medium size businesses and business entrepreneurs across America.

Ladies Day

On May 4 about 10 lady photographers got together for a Ladies Day which we discussed marketing tips and photography tips. It was such an excellent time. I always walk away with a few great ideas. It is great to be able to bounce off ideas with other to get their opinions. Sometime you wonder if your idea will work or not. This time, we also went on a field trip to Laurel Ridge and Topsmead. Here are a few images for you to view that I took that day.

Back from NEIPP

Want an awesome week it was. My head is spinning with new ideas. The week started off with Ann Monteith on how the business end works in photography and then ended with Bev and Tim Walden with the art of portrait photography. What great speakers. I also got to see Arthur Rainville and Jennifer Hudson one evening. What an inspirational program. The whole week was just amazing. Now, I have to start working on those great ideas that I learned.

Villa Rosa Bridal Fair in Waterbury

Villa Rosa Bridal Fair
Uniquely Yours Photography participated in the first Annual Bridal Fair at the Villa Rosa on Sunday-February 22nd. What a turn out we had considering the weather report. There were over 100 brides-to-be with their grooms, bridesmaids, and parents walking around and talking to all of the vendors. There were photographers, florists, limousine companies, DJ services, travel agents, cake makers, tuxedos, bridal boutiques, make-up artists, hairdressers, furniture and a rental place. The Villa Rosa also had food for everyone to taste that was awesome. The gowns came from Simply Couture in North Haven; the tuxedos were from Modern Formals that has a store in Meriden, North Haven and Southington. Sonia Day Spa from Hamden did the make-up on the models and Due Amici Salon in Wallingford did the hair. Links to the following vendors are on the side. A slide show of the event is below. Enjoy.

Connecticut Professional Photographers Association

I just recently attended the CPPA Convention (www.ctppa.com) in Cromwell. What a fun filled weekend it was. On Friday afternoon, we had one of our own members-Carla Ten Eyck teach us “Blogging 101”. You could check out her blog at www.carlateneyck.com. As you can see, I started my own. Thank you Carla. In the evening, we had Laura Watkins (a motivational speaker) who taught us to Dream Big and Make It Happen. Early Saturday morning, our speakers were Joseph and Louise Simone from Montreal, Canada who taught us “The Fine Art Portrait”. Their program was so amazing and very inspirational. Their portraiture is awesome. Check out their work at www.simoneportrait.com. Saturday afternoon, our speakers were Ralph and Cindy Romaguera from New Orleans who taught us how to make a living with our eye, heart and camera. They showed us how school photography can work for us. You could check out their work at www.romaguera.com. They also had an amazing slideshow of New Orleans after Katrina hit. It was an eye opener on how devasted it was and still is in New Orleans. Saturday evening, we had an awesome party with free food and wine and beer courtesy of CPPA. Thank you CPPA. Sunday morning, we had Paul Rogers from Chicago whose program was on “Illustrative Love”. His wedding photographs and albums were awesome. I learned a few new poses and techniques from Paul. You can check out his work at www.paulrogersphotography.com. In the afternoon, Ben Willmore who is traveling the states with his 40ft tour bus showed us a few new techniques in Photoshop. It is amazing what you could do to a photograph in photoshop. Check some of Ben’s work at www.digitalmastery.com. Monday morning, we had Pulitzer Prize Winning Photographer: David Hume Kennerly. Kennerly’s program was out of this world. The photographs that he has taken over the years are unbelievable; from being President Ford’s personal photographer to capturing the last 7 presidential campaigns and leaders from countries around the world. Words cannot explain it. You just had to be there. You could check out Kennerly’s work on his website at www.kennerly.com. We ended the convention with Stephen Eastwood who showed how it is done in the modeling business. It is definitely a different world. Check out Stephen’s work at www.stepheneastwood.com.

It is so amazing what you learn from listening to the speakers and from you peers. Photography for me is not just a job; it is a passionate to be able to capture a precious moment in time that you will cherish for a lifetime.

Here are the prints that I entered into print competition this year:
